200,000 people working at 317 locations in 53 different countries. That was on the one hand one of the reasons why I came here (exciting to work with so many different cultures), on the other hand it is quite a challenge within a central function.

In our new employer brand, which kicked off last year, 50 pictogram (little yellow symbols) build the word ideas of our claim “Let your ideas shape the future.” One of them is the pictogram “global”.

In our team (Corporate Employer Branding) we were planning the roll-out. Regarding online communication, which is my task, we were thinking of a little activity that makes use of the new pictograms.

The idea arose to let one of the pictograms travel the world to show our truly international team and make people aware of our company size and global career possibilities. I did not think much about it at first, but just started to ask people all over the world if they would like to take part. After I did not receive a single “no”, I started to plan the route, the overall process and the details. To have an example on how it could look like, we took the first photo with our apprentices in Germany. As a location we chose the townhall Hanover, which is known for showing the locations of headquarters. Doing an apprenticehip is a very common German career path, which we wanted to show as well.

One country after another joined and the pictogram started its journey. I was surprised by all the tiny problems that occured, e. g. customs, duration of travel or change of contact persons.

The activity is still running, but these are some of my favorite photos so far. Each picture and every Continental employee on it expresses our passion and the pride of being a member of this great team of 200,000 colleagues.

I hope that we will be able to repeat this, next time perhaps with a different pictogram and a special theme.
