Hello, my name is Juan. After I studied economics in Ecuador, I began working as a trainee at Continental’s Cuenca plant in 2013. In addition to a six-month internship in Malaysia, I also spent six months in Stöcken, after which I was given the chance to stay permanently. Now I’ve been working in Stöcken for four years and spent the last year in Controlling CVT at Manufacturing Tires.
In Hanover, I also discovered my greatest passion outside of work – over the last two years, triathlon has become my main hobby, for which I have set myself some very ambitious goals.
It all started by chance at home on the south side of the city, when my neighbour, an elderly lady, came home one day wearing a badge. When I asked her about it, she explained that it was from the Maschsee triathlon. I’ve been fascinated by the sport ever since and train up to nine times a week, usually in the morning before work. Thanks to the flexible working hours at Stöcken, I can even go for a run during my lunch break. Usually I train for the swimming event at the Stadionbad pool and, in the summer, at the Ricklinger Bad swimming pool and in the adjacent Kiesteichen lakes. Some of my colleagues from Continental are joining me there.
For my first sprint-distance triathlon on the Maschsee lake, I had set myself the goal of a top-100 finish. And it all went entirely to plan! Now I’m is focusing on the Half-Ironman distance – and my next goal is to reach the podium. And after that? Of course, I want to attempt the top tier of triathlons – the Ironman. This is my goal for 2020, and where better than in my native country of Ecuador. And, naturally, with Continental tires on my bike!
