Already fully involved as a career starter, managing projects and assuming responsibility? This works out! In Hamburg Harburg, one of Continental’s oldest locations. How it came to this, I would like to briefly tell here.
My name is Fabian and I’m 22 years old. Like many others, I started my journey at Continental as a dual student. Even though I applied for dual studies at several companies, Continental convinced me not only because of its size. Especially the prospect of a stay abroad inspired me. Of course, I could not have guessed at the time that this would significantly influence my career path.
After packing my things in 2015, leaving my hometown of Steinfurt and moving to Hannover, I studied Business Administration there for three years. I do not want to miss that time because I not only got to know different areas of Continental, but also gained international experience. In short, my expectations were met and even exceeded in some areas. In 2017, during my time in the US, I finally got to know my current supervisor. When I heard that he wanted to move after five years from America back to Germany, I quickly joined and wrote my bachelor thesis in the new ContiTech central function Innovation & Digitalization. In doing so, I dealt with the topic of digital office concepts. And even after handing in my bachelor thesis, I continued in the department: Meanwhile, I am responsible as project manager for the development of a new Trend Antenna in Hamburg.
Trend Antenna? Heard right. Although this is not a new concept for Continental, but it is the first for ContiTech. In our prototype laboratory in Hamburg, the “Makers Garage”, we will work together with external students on various trend analyzes and initial concept tests for our business units. Since the office building, where the whole is supposed to take place, is currently being built, I can not only work out the concept of Trend Antenna, but also apply my knowledge from the bachelor thesis and help to shape the space.
The wide range of tasks of my job allows me to bring in many experiences and still learn new things over and over again. All of this is only possible thanks to the great trust placed in every employee in our department. Of course, there are discussions, but in the first steps I have free hands in the implementation. In addition, I am completely free in the design of my work. This allows me to complete an extra-occupational Master’s Degree in Digital Management & Transformation.
