As a product manager at ContiTech, Max Friedrich deals with the belt drive for bicycles every day. But also in his free time he is inspired by mobility and bicycles. As a mountain bike sportsman Max Friedrich has now won the German championship “Cross Country 2017″. We are very happy for him and took the opportunity to ask him some questions about his work and hobby.
What does your 8th championship title mean to you?
I never thought I’d get the champions jersey again. Not only because the last victory of 2009 lies a few years back. Even my health before the competition did not offer me the best starting conditions. The fact that I have performed so well in the race and even won it in the end is an incredibly great feeling!
Just like your career as an athlete, also your career at Continental is defined by experience. How have you started at Continental and what exactly is your task nowadays?
After my degree in mechanical engineering I have started working at Continental in 2008. For a long time I dealt with the development of fuel supply systems. Today I am responsible for the further development of the ContiDrive System, the belt drive system for bicycles. In addition to the development of new features, the coordination of samples and serial parts, as well as the contact to suppliers, technical support and the sales team are part of my tasks.
Can you bring your knowledge and passion for cycling into your daily work?
Yes, definitely! Because of the many years of experience as an active athlete I know exactly the requirements of cycling. I benefit from this knowledge in my daily work when it comes to improving existing products or developing new ones. I know the perspective of the manufacturer as well as the user´s one and always work on bringing these needs together. In addition I practice at least half of my training on the eBike. Thereby I basically test the Continental eBike System components which are developed by my colleagues.
Once again congratulations on the championship and all the best to you!
