My name is Dominik Krist, I am 20 years old and currently doing an apprenticeship as Industrial Management Assistant at Benecke-Hornschuch Surface Group, a subsidiary of Continental. My additional subjects are International Business Management with French as foreign language. In my free time, I do Karate and play the guitar. Continental enabled me to discover Ireland this year, as I was given the opportunity to visit for nine days. In the following, I will tell about my activities and my experience there.
Our trip began in Frankfurt where we started with a Lufthansa machine in direction to Dublin. We stayed in Dublin for two days and discovered the city. We used a “hop on-hop off” bus which allowed us to get an impression of the city. In the evening, we visited pubs and the very famous temple bar. The atmosphere was very nice and it was easy to do small talk with other people.
On the third day, we left Dublin and drove to Kilfinane which is located in the county of Limerick. We lived in an outdoor education center. The program said English lessons. So we studied about Ireland, business English, how to do small talk and some grammar rules. Our teacher was a native speaker and we were not in school, thus speaking in the foreign language felt a lot easier. They were useful lessons which improved my English skills and gave me practical tips for the business everyday life.
Besides the English lessons, we did a lot of outdoor activities like driving a mountain bike, horse riding, archery and drive go-kart. For this reason it was a very varied program and a lot of fun. Furthermore, I got to know the Irish nature. We visited the Gap of Dunloe, the Torc Waterfall and the Cliffs of Moher. At the Cliffs of Moher we hiked for two hours and enjoyed the beautiful view.
All in all, it was an awesome trip that improved my English skills, gave me insights into the Irish nature and I different new experience like horse riding. It was a great experience!
